The mother of a 19-year-old, who allegedly stabbed an off-duty police officer between the eyes during an horrific home invasion, says her son should never have been given the opportunity to commit the alleged crime.
Jade Hunia was on bail when he allegedly broke into Daniel Yeoman's Melbourne home and stabbed him in a desperate attempt to steal the police officer's family car last Saturday.
The young police officer who has been pictured with a badly swollen and blackened eye and facial scars since the incident has been let out of hospital but has a long recovery ahead of him, according to Fairfax.

Yeoman's father Dave, also a police officer, has spoken out about his son's injuries - both physical and emotional.
"The recovery is going to be long and arduous, and needless to say they're very traumatised as to what's occurred, with concern mostly for the children," Detective Senior Sergeant Yeoman told Channel Seven.
The incident is just one of dozens of attacks by youths and teenage street gangs which have been terrorising the Victorian city over the last 12 months, which the senior police officer acknowledged.
"We sympathise with other victims of crime as well, we now what it's like. It happens to us as well and we do our best to deal with it as it happens."

Yeoman's wife, Shereen, who was also allegedly assaulted alongside her husband said she is too afraid to go back to their family home.
The accused 's own mother also made a public apology to the police officer and his family, breaking down in tears to admit her son should not have been given bail in the days before the alleged incident took place.
"Bail wasn't going to work, he is just better off not coming out anyway, he's just going to hurt someone else," the tearful mother told Nine News.
"We sympathise with other victims of crime as well, we now what it's like. It happens to us as well and we do our best to deal with it as it happens."

The 19-year-old was on bail after a string of incidents police will allege he was involved in.
Hunia had been bailed twice in the weeks prior to the alleged aggravated burglary and faced burglary charges as well as charges for breaching previous bail conditions.
Hunia, originally from New Zealand, sports a long rats tail and partly shaved head. The teenager's social media accounts show him posing "like a gangster".
Pictures show him in clubs and at friends birthdays, often pulling faces or obscene gestures in the direction of the camera.
Hunia's mother has been to court eight times in the past to support her son - on six of those times he has been bailed despite previously allegedly breaking his bail conditions.
